רִבִּי יוּדָה בַּר פָּזִי רִבִּי חָנִין בְּשֵׁם רִבִּי שְׁמוּאֵל בַּר רַב יִצְחָק. נֹחַ בִּכְנִיסָתוֹ לַתֵּיבָה נֶאֶסְרָה לוֹ תַשְׁמִישׁ הַמִּיטָּה. מַה טַעַם. וּבָאתָ֙ אֶל־הַתֵּיבָה אַתָּ֕ה וּבָנֶי֛ךָ וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֥ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנֶי֖ךָ אִתָּֽךְ׃ וּבִיצִיאָתוֹ הוּתְּרָה לוֹ תַשְׁמִישׁ הַמִּיטָּה. מַה טַעַם. צֵא֭ מִן־הַתֵּיבָה אַתָּ֕ה וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֛ וּבָנֶ֥יךָ וּנְשֵֽׁי־בָנֶי֖ךָ אִתָּֽךְ׃ אָמַר רִבִּי חִייָה בַּר בָּא. לְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵיהֶ֔ם יָֽצְא֖וּ מִן־הַתֵּבָֽה׃ עַל יְדֵי שֶׁשִּׁימְרוּ יַחַסֵיהֶן זָכוּ לְהִינָּצֵל מִן הַתֵּיבָה. תֵּדַע לָךְ שֶׁהוּא כֵן. דְּתַנִּינָן. חַם כֶּלֶב וְעוֹרֵב קִילְקְלוּ מַעֲשֵׂיהֶן. חַם יָצָא מְפוּחָם. כֶּלֶב יָצָא מְפוּרְסָם בְּתַשְׁמִישׁוֹ. עוֹרֵב יָצָא מְשׁוּנֶּה מִן הַבִּרְיוֹת. אָמַר רִבִּי אָבוּן. כָּתוּב בְּחֶ֥סֶר וּבְכָפָ֗ן גַּ֫לְמ֥וּד. בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁאַתְּ רוֹאֶה חִסָּרוֹן בָּא לָעוֹלָם עֲשֵׂה אִשְׁתְּךָ גַּלְמוּדָה. אָמַר רִבִּי לֵוִי. כָּתוּב וּלְיוֹסֵ֤ף יוּלָּד שְׁנֵ֣י בָנִ֔ים. אֵימָתַי. בְּטֶ֥רֶם תָּב֖וֹא שְׁנַ֣ת הָֽרָעָ֑ב. תַּנֵּי בְשֵׁם רִבּי יְהוּדָה. תְּאֵיבֵי בָנִים מְשַׁמְּשִׁין מִיטּוֹתֵיהֶן. אָמַר רִבִּי יוֹסֵי. וּבִלְבַד יוֹם שְׁטָּֽבְלָה.
227 Rebbi Jehudah bar Pazi, Rebbi Ḥanin in the name of Rebbi Samuel bar Rav Isaac: On his entrance to the Ark Noe was forbidden sexual relations. What is the reason? You shall come into the Ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives228. On his exit sexual relations were permitted to him. What is the reason? Leave the Ark, you, your wife, your sons, and your sons’ wives with you229. Rebbi Ḥiyya bar Abba said, by their families they left the Ark230; since they refrained from their relations they merited to be saved from the Deluge. You may know that it is so since we stated231, Ham, the dog, and the raven misbehaved. Ham exited charcoal colored. The dog exited public in his relations. The raven exited different from the creatures. Rebbi Abun232 said, it is written, in want and hunger infertile233. If you see that want comes into the world make your wife infertile234. Rebbi Levi235 said, to Joseph were born two sons236, when? Before the start of the year of famine. It was stated in the name of Rebbi Jehudah235: those who desire to have children do have sexual relations. Rebbi Yose said, only on the day she immersed herself237.
